music and me

Hey, my name is Ryan, I am a very introspective thinker, very social, and understanding, and I am always trying to learn something new. Just like every other person, there are many sides to myself, some that even I have not recognized yet, but hopefully, through this and future blogs we both get a better grasp of ourselves.

The first song I'm bringing up is “Leave me” by Anees. I first heard the hook for this song on TikTok 8 months before it was officially released and waited ever since. It is a very soulful song dealing with insecurities while in a relationship. Mainly not feeling adequate for your partner and loving them enough to want them to be happy even if it is not with you. At the same time, you do not want them to leave because you realize how special they are. The song sounds so genuine and from the heart, I have been listening to it on repeat since its release and I am so glad the song lived up to the hype.

I also want to talk about "Runaway" by Kanye West featuring Pusha T. To me, this song touches on the pitfalls of having an extremely goal-driven mindset to the point that other parts of your life such as relationships and the ability to cultivate relationships suffers. It also touches on the malcontents that come with chasing a specific goal and how it seeps into all parts of your life. I identify with the feeling bad that you devote so much of your time and energy to something that important relationships suffer and you feel like you're being inconsiderate and selfish. No matter how understanding the person maybe you feel like a bad person because it's not about how they feel in actuality, it's about you see yourself.

This song is "Soul Train" by YBN Nahmir, This song is just bad to me. I can't enjoy any aspect of this song. I know music is subjective but I truly believe this song is objectively bad.

  1. Ryan, I liked your analysis of the music you chose because it seems to reflect your qualities of introspective thinking and learning new sides of yourself. The music you chose means more than to you than the surface level of just listening and I respect that! Glad to see that you also enjoy Kanye.

  2. I really enjoyed reading your blogs and I also loved the meaning behind the songs you selected. I really enjoyed listening to “Leave Me” by Aness. As much as I am on tiktok I have never heard that song and I am always down to listen to soft hearted music, so I definitely added this to my playlist. Thank you for sharing such beautiful pieces.

  4. I really like how you explain the meaning behind why or why not you like the songs you added. I had not ever heard the song you added by Anees, but I really liked it; I think the word that I think I would describe it as is wholesome.

  5. I was very surprised by the kind of music you like because I had never heard that kind of music until I came to the United States.  "Leave me" by Anees seems to me a very good song because of the beat and the lyrics, I'm going to add it for my playlist!

  6. Ryan! I can appreciate that the song you have chosen reflects a deeper meaning. Do you think the music you listen to usually demonstrates how you feel about life in general? Or is it a wide range, and these pieces are a small part that feeds the side of you that craves a deeper connection to the music? The contrast between your two liked songs and the disliked song is clear and gave me a small incite into your mind of music! Thank you for sharing!

  7. Hello Ryan, You definitely may have just put me on with that first song. It seems as though we have very similar music taste and for very similar reasons. Runaway is definitely one of those songs I sing at the top of my lungs in the car and I will now have to play it for us the next time you get in my car so we can have a moment, lol. After listening to the song you said you did not like, I also realized that it is not the greatest song on the planet, something about it is just unpleasing to the ear.

  8. I can also agree with you on the YBM Namir song the vocals and the beat to the song just don't match one bit, I don't understand how people actually like this song. He use to be a great rapper to listen to.
